Supporting Global Recycling Day

18th March is Global Recycling Day. It was created to help recognise and celebrate the importance that recycling plays in preserving our precious primary resources. It is a day for the world to come together and put the planet first. Given that our group company name is Atlas, we feel an extra responsibility to do so!

Why is recycling important? Well, not only is recycling helping to slow down climate change, it has also created 1.6 million jobs across the world and supplies 40% of the world’s raw material needs. As our natural resources (water, air, minerals, oil, coal and natural gas) are depleting at a rapid rate, it is more important than ever for us to reduce the amount of waste we produce, reuse where possible and recycle the rest.

To mark Global Recycling Day, we are kicking off a recycling review across our Atlas and family company offices. We want to reduce our impact on the environment wherever possible, and we’ve asked our employees to help us go greener by reducing waste or recycling it via the correct waste streams.

To help, we have put together a list of all the typical items that people can and can’t recycle – as we know it can get a bit confusing. The recycling guide below is based on what is accepted by the majority of councils across the UK, but make sure you know what rules apply to you via the official government website.
