“I do a bit of everything, really.  

I’m a mobile cleaner, so I go wherever I’m needed that day. Some days I’m just cleaning, other days I’m supervising if they need me. It changes all the time. 

I used to work in events, but honestly, I didn’t really like it, it wasn’t for me. Then a friend told me about cleaning jobs at Atlas, and how much he enjoyed it, so I decided to give it a go. It was the best decision I’ve ever made. 

If I’m honest, the main thing that keeps me in this job is the money. Most people don’t know that you can actually make a lot of good money as a cleaner, and a lot of the time it’s not super hard, but it does have its moments. I like that every day is different too, I’m always at a different site, cleaning different things, and finding new ways to do it. It keeps it interesting. 

I can’t think of one big moment that stands out, but honestly, I really enjoy the job. 

As I said, every day is different. Some days are really relaxed, and there’s no rush, but on event days it’s very busy, and you have to move quickly to keep things going. But even when it’s quiet, I like to work quickly and get the job done. I like being busy. The main thing people don’t get about cleaning is that it’s not just wiping surfaces. We do big deep cleans to keep these places in good shape, not just looking tidy. This part is important for keeping buildings running smoothly. 

Sometimes I find supervising can be difficult. You get people from all sorts of backgrounds and figuring out how to talk to everyone, especially when there are language barriers, isn’t always easy. But I’m grateful for the chance to be a supervisor. Learning how to talk to different people is a skill I use everywhere now. Figuring out new ways to clean things and work smarter has helped me in other parts of life too. It’s made me better at solving problems. 

What makes me good at this job? I’ve got a good eye for detail, I work hard, and I’m open to anything. Those things matter in cleaning. 

Not much surprises you as a cleaner. You have get used to anything happening because people can sometimes be pretty gross! At a concert last year someone actually used the pitch as a bathroom! That was just gross, I remember thinking ‘Who does that?!’ 

Overall, I really enjoy what I do, more people should know how rewarding cleaning can be.”
